FAQs
- How much experience does WordZite have?
Our founders have been working in the web industry since the early 2000’s. With over 20 years of combined industry experience, they have watched the industry and the tools therein evolve and adapt to the changing demands of users and the marketplace. WordZite was born out of a self-serving need to secure clients websites and protect them from cyber threats. What was formerly a series of best-practices for a digital agency became a separate company now know as WordZite.
- Can’t my in-house IT person just do all of this security stuff for me?
We love good IT people. They are our allies in the fight against cyberthreats. But, web and IT are different animals. IT people are trained and certified to manage the hardware and internal systems required to operate a business. These systems include computers, mobile devices, printers, faxes, email programs, mail servers and phone systems. Web technology (and WordPress in particular) requires completely different training and skill sets to manage. It’s like comparing a plumber and an electrician. Both are well-respected trades who work in your home. But, you wouldn’t want to get your plumber to rewire your house.
- Can I keep my current web host?
Maybe. A big part of security is about making sure the web host is meeting our minimum standards. And we also want to make sure that as few people as possible have access to this vital business systems – those that do must understand web security best-practices. We always begin with a Security and Performance Audit which provides you with a full report on how well your WordPress website complies with all of our standards. Auditing the current hosting environment is included in this process. If your current web host is not sufficient, we’ll recommend moving the site to a web host that meets or exceeds our standards.
- What areas do you serve?
The entire world. However, our offices hours are from 9am to 5pm Pacific Time. New client inquiries and requests get reviewed during those hours. Support requests from our existing clients get handled through our ticketing system and resolved by the first available technician.
- Do you guys develop your own WordPress security plugins?
No. Our business model is analogous to managed services companies who use the latest technology to ensure your network, computers and email are kept secure, online and functioning. We aren’t attached to any single WordPress plugin, web host, software, or service. If something new or better presents itself, we’ll adopt it to the benefit of all of our clients.
- Are there any hidden fees or costs I should know of?
No. Our plans and pricing are published on our site. But, we do audit all of our clients’ sites prior to beginning any plan. Any security issues that are a result of poor development practices will need to be remediated prior to beginning the WordZite plan. Following our audit, we can provide you with an estimate of what it will take to remediate any issues we find.
- Can I pay annually instead of monthly? Is there a discount for paying annually?
Presently, no. But, if you are adamant about paying annually, we can make arrangements. Please contact us if you wish to discuss an annual plan.
- Does WordZite have a free trial?
Unfortunately, no. We are not a SaaS (software as a service) company. We don’t sell plugins. We are a team of experts that has developed systems and processes to secure WordPress websites. So, when you sign-on with us, we actually go to work and start cleaning-up, configuring and securing your site. The start of our process is a WordPress Audit which is like a home inspection for your website. It tells you what you need to know about the security and performance of your WordPress website in layman’s terms.
- Why do I even need WordZite if I can purchase cyber liability insurance?
That’s like asking why you need to exercise and eat healthy if you can just purchase life insurance? Insurance covers the cost of dealing with the worst case scenarios. But, you wisest strategy is to always minimize the chance of having an incident in the first place. If you’d like to learn how secure your WordPress website is, we recommend you start with our WordPress Security and Performance audit.
- Does using WordZite mean that my site is 100% secure?
Unfortunately, no. We truly wish this was the case. But, by deciding to use WordPress as your content management system, you are inherently taking on a small amount of risk associated with the use of open-source technology. The good news is that WordPress powers about 30% of the entire internet. So, it’s a very stable and widely adopted technology. And by choosing to use WordZite, you are minimizing your risk as much as humanly possible. We also recommend purchasing cyber liability insurance.
- Do you offer services for other content managements systems like Drupal and Joomla?
As of 2018, WordPress was reportedly powering between 25% and 30% of the entire internet. Other content management systems appear to be losing ground. So, we are presently 100% focused on delivering the best security and performance services possible for WordPress alone. If this strategic decision changes, we’ll publish an announcement on our blog and in our newsletter.
- Do you offer other services like web design and digital marketing?
No. But, we do have a sister company that can provide these services to some clients. And we also have relationships with agencies in other cities and countries whom we can refer you to if needed.
- Can I still develop the website myself or with my current developer?
Yes. But, we recommend using a 3rd party server as a development server where your site can be developed and staged. For our top-tier clients, we offer a staging site for this purpose. When it is ready to go live, we’ll audit the staging site and make sure it complies with our security standards prior to putting it live.
- Do you offer discount for charities?
Yes we do. However, you must be a registered charity. Contact us and we’ll give you some options for you to consider.
- Can I change my plan?
Of course, you can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time. However, we do need 30 days notice of any downgrades as some of our services and software may need to be disconnected from your website.
- Is there any commitment? What happens if I want to stop using WordZite?
There is no commitment. All we require is 30 days notice so that we can disconnect all of the services and software we use to monitor and manage your website’s security and performance. Then we’ll give you a full backup of your website which you (or your web developer) can then restore to any server you want.
- Why is your company name WordZite?
We manage really “solid” WordPress websites. So, we did some research to find out what truly is the hardest material on earth? It turns out, it is not diamonds. There is Graphene, Buckypaper, Metallic Glass, Dyneema, Lonsdaleite…and Wurtzite Boron Nitride. Given that we are specialize in WordPress websites, we thought we would combine WordPress and Wurtzite. And thus, we came up with the name WordZite.
